- I respect myself and my needs
|
Life is infinitely more pleasant when we possess the ability to comfortably refuse unreasonable or inconvenient requests. When helping others causes problems for us, it is time for a careful review of ourselves and our objectives. If we'd like to refuse obligations that aren't really ours and want to avoid feeling angry and resentful when people don't respect our needs, we must keep one important fact in mind: If we don't acknowledge and respect ourselves and our needs, neither will anyone else.

- Adventuring into Midlife
|
Once we look within, we discover that adulthood can be a time of transformation. It can be a time of spiritual unfolding.
Dramatic as it may sound, adulthood can be metamorphosis. If you find this hard to believe, remember that a creature as simple and primitive as a caterpillar enters a cocoon; its body partly dissolves and "dies"; it is reconstituted in another shape; and finally it emerges as a butterfly.
Is it therefore not at least possible that a creature as complex and evolved as a human being might also have an equally profound metamorphosis?

I am sure you all have noticed that Dead Journal is exact replica of the more popular Live Journal. Did you ever wonder how did the DJ people get away with copying the brilliant idea of LJ guys? [They also use the same tags, for example lj-cut ] I get a feeling that there is more than what has met my eye. Maybe the two sites are run by common or associated group of people. Read this if you think I have gone nuts.
If you think you know better, enlighten me as well.

Here is a poem by Bill Watterson that shows Calvin's view on the way he is raised by his parents.
My mom and dad are not what they seem, Their dull appearance is part of their scheme. I know of their plans. I know their techniques. My parents are outer space alien freaks! They landed on earth in spaceships humongous. Posing as grownups, they now walk among us. My parents deny this, but I know the truth. They're here to enslave me and spoil my youth. Early each morning, as the sun rises, Mom and dad put on their earthling disguises. I know right away their masks weren't legit. Their faces are lined - they sag and don't fit. The earth's gravity makes them sluggish and slow. They say not to run, wherever I go. They live by the clock. They're slaves to routines. They work the year 'round. They're almost machines. They deny that TV and fried food have much worth. They cannot be human. They're not of this earth. I cannot escape their alien gaze, And they're warping my mind with their alien ways. For sinister plots, this one is a gem. They're bringing me up to turn me into them!

- Beauty Tips by Audrey Hepburn
|
"For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge you'll never walk alone ... People, even more than things, need to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed and redeemed and redeemed. Never throw out anybody. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you'll find one at the end of your arm. As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands. One for helping yourself, the other for helping others."
This is an aesthetic yet earnest poem. The splendor of the words increases manifolds when you realize that the poet was a gorgeous woman celebrated for her beautiful looks.

- My neighbor - Mr.Nosey
|
I am sure most of you have met one of the species at some time or the other. My problem is that I am seated next to one. I sit in a huge cubicle where each gets enough space. This has no meaning to Mr. Nosey. He twirls his chair and sits prosperously facing my monitor. My freezing scorpion stares have no effect on him. He is meddlesome and a proud of it.
He does not think twice before questioning me on the document that I am working on; with which he has nothing to do. He has the courage to inform me that I have a new mail icon blinking on the status bar. He does not simply look at my screen, he imbibes the details.
Initially I tried to make him conscious of his irritating behavior ? in vain. Now I am used to it. I wonder if he realizes that he is the subject of this passage. Oddly, as I write this I am more amused than irritated.
